“Because of you, I’ll be eligible for parole in the next 10 years! I currently have 61 years, but because I was incarcerated at 15 years old, I’ll be going back to be re-sentenced later this year, and hopefully your newly passed bill that allows parole for youthful offenders will apply to me. I will be 35 years old.” – Dreshawn L., Western Illinois Correctional Center
Stories of Second Chances is more than our annual fundraising lunch. It is a moment each year when we reflect on the resilience of the people we fight for, when we celebrate the people who fight alongside us, and when we share stories from the front lines.
Our purpose is to roll back ineffective “tough on crime” policies of the past, and to replace them with smart and safe policies for the future. We’re focused on issues facing people serving life or de facto life sentences, particularly those who become involved in the criminal justice system as youth or young adults.
Reflect with us, celebrate with us, share a few hours with us. Because of friends like you, Dreshawn is getting a second chance. Be a part of the next great second chance story by joining us on December 12.
Restore Justice is the only policy organization in Illinois specifically working to address issues faced by those serving life or de-facto life sentences and their families. The organization’s purpose is to roll back the “tough on crime” policies of the past, replacing them with compassionate, smart, and safe policies for the future.
